Therap is on its way to releasing Version 8.0 soon. As the most significant update to the Therap system this year, this version will include industry leading technologies and innovative features that greatly improve performance and flexibility of the system.
“This is a substantial update to our applications, with features that many of us at Therap have wished to see for a long time. It was time to take the system to the next level and come up with features that let users do a lot more with Therap, and with the development of Version 8.0, we have been able to achieve just that.” said Sazzad Rafique, a Senior Software Engineer at Therap Services, LLC.
What is Jonathan’s Law?
Jonathan’s Law allows parents and guardians of children with disabilities to access their medical records, reports of incidents and abuse allegations. This law was passed in May 2007 and mandated to all service providers in New York State. Agencies are now required to notify the guardians in cases of ill treatment and provide written reports following investigations.
New Version of 3D Training Game Released
This September, training on planet Ehtpar and fighting Martians add new level of enthusiasm with the release of version 0.2.0 of “DSP on Planet Ehtpar”. The new version of Therap’s popular 3D game now encompasses training on T-Logs, Notifications, and Health Tracking modules of Therap applications.
Whether it’s about creating detailed daily notes and finding follow-ups to them, or setting up and receiving notifications properly, users will learn both how and why such tasks are required to be done in an appropriate way.
A lot of attention has also been given to the Health Tracking module for this release. Players will be trained to setup Appointments and document individual’s Vital Signs using this module. A specific section also includes training users on generating consultation forms, and attaching files to the system.
After flying spaceships, fighting Martians, and exploring planet Ehtpar like never before, users will have the opportunity to try out the new Martian Crusader on an intriguing speed boat ride, as well as play other fun filled mini games. As always, lots of new graphics, sounds, and technical enhancements have been part of this new release.
Try out the new game here. You may also discuss about the game on our forum.

Therap Brings Jonathan’s Law to Incident Reporting
Notification to staff members and guardians as required by Jonathan’s Law can now be documented using Therap’s General Event Reports (GERs), also known as Incident Reports. Therap has developed a system of prompts and reminders in its upcoming Version 8.0 to ensure compliance with Jonathan’s Law. The system also ensures automatic and real-time alerting of incidents and allegations of abuse via SComm, Email, Text Message, and Pager. Based on the data entered, the system can determine the required level of notification on a specific Incident Report. Preferences for sending notifications to family/guardians on reportable, serious reportable, and abuse/neglect GERs can be set-up in the Individual Data Form (IDF). If a Reportable/Serious Reportable incident or Abuse/Neglect is found, the system also provides the option to filter out staff names when sending the state forms to the family/guardian.
What is a Non-Program Based Form?
A non-program based form is one that is independent of Programs (Sites), and based on specific Individuals. Generally forms are unique based on a combination of Program and Individual, but Non-Program based forms are unique for a particular Individual, and common to all Programs. The Individualized Plan of Protective Oversight and Safeguards (IPOP) is an example of a Non-Program based form. Every Individual can have a unique IPOP form, but the same form is available across all the Programs the Individual is enrolled in. Other examples of Non-Program based forms include Individual Data Form (IDF), ISP Plan, and Health Care Reports (HCR).
Conferences
Therap will host a three day conference from Oct 28 - 30, 2008 in Overland Park, Kansas. The conference will provide an opportunity for the experienced, new and potential Therap users to learn to efficiently manage and use the Therap system for handling day to day documentation, reporting and communication needs of the agencies. In addition, the conference will feature multiple interactive sessions and workshops on the curriculum and the Learning Management System offered by College of Direct Support (CDS).
One-day educational seminars for the developmental disability community in different parts of New York State (Syracuse, Batavia, Corning, and Fishkill), are also being arranged by Therap. The seminars will focus on the technology tailored to meet the specific needs of service providers, health professionals, regulators, and family members to reduce costs and improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities in New York.
